Southampton Compact
The Compact is an agreement protocol, or code of practice, that sets out the principles which statutory agencies (like local authorities, the health service and the police) and their voluntary and community partners will follow in their dealings with each other. Its purpose is to clarify, develop and embed good relations between public and voluntary sectors in Southampton. The national Compact was launched in 1998; since that time the government has encouraged the adoption of local compacts and expects all local areas to have a compact in place by March 2006.
