Steven Young
![]() | Steven Young, a Master Mariner, has enjoyed a career spanning 31 years in the maritime industry in a variety of operational, commercial and senior management roles. Currently the Deputy Port Manager at Associated British Ports’ (ABP) Port of Southampton he is Involved with all aspects of the port’s commercial and operational activities and has a key role in the port’s strategic sustainable growth and development plans He joined ABP as Deputy Harbour Master, Southampton, in 1990, remaining in the position for over nine years he took a leading role in the port’s marine and harbour management. After this, he spent five years as the Port Manager running ABP’s Ports of Barrow-in-Furness and Silloth, Cumbria, before returning to Southampton as Harbour Master in 2004. His earlier career included a period as Operations Staff Manager for BT Marine and 14 years with the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company where he served worldwide, variously on cargo, container and cruise ships including Southampton’s beloved ‘Canberra’. Steven has had a significant community interest including experience as a school governor and on the management committees for organisations such as the RNLI and the Sea Cadets. In recent years he has served on a variety of boards, partnerships and steering committees covering a range of topics including urban regeneration, transport, logistics, environment and economic development.
