IDeA: Bright ideas - Taking control of care
This case study describes Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service’s innovative ‘Ministry of Food’ pilot scheme. The scheme’s focus was a pilot intake of 15 students with low-level learning disabilities who were tutored to cook a meal from scratch. The students were taught healthy recipes and safe cooking techniques by fire fighters and partner agencies at local community fire stations.

This case study sets out how Northumberland County Council overcame geographical barriers by developing a virtual service for carers.
IDeA: Keeping children and young people safe in the community
This case study sets out how Northumberland County Council has sought to address serious concerns in the child protection system by assisting young people at risk of harming themselves due to offending, substance misuse and a range of other issues.
IDeA: London Fire Brigade and fire community safety officers
London Fire Brigade established the role of fire community safety officers in 2007. They are community engagement specialists, targeting London’s diverse communities with information on how they can protect themselves from fire.

Sunderland City Council won a Local Innovation Award in recognition of its innovative approach to tackling crime and anti-social behaviour and improving public confidence.
